WPC Canada Future Leaders is proud to present the 2021 Ingenuity in Energy virtual panel discussion focused on transformational technologies that leverage oil and gas expertise to help find solutions to our energy challenges.
Join us for a lunch-hour virtual event that showcases Ingenuity in Energy by spotlighting individuals who are challenging the status quo and reshaping the future of industry. The panel-style event will host five speakers from different facets within Alberta’s energy and natural resources landscape to provide a unique perspective on the transformational innovation taking place. Aaron Foyer (Co-Founder of Energy Minute) will be moderating the discussion.
The event is from 12:00 pm – 1: 00 pm on Thursday April 15, 2021 and will include brief speaker introductions highlighting individual experience and their company mission. Following this will be an insightful panel discussion around all things energy, including opportunities and challenges within the Alberta energy ecosystem. This year we will be unable to meet in person, so the event will be held on a Zoom Webinar platform.
Bailey Schwarz is a professional engineer with a decade of hands on engineering experience that focused on data analytics and process optimization. Ms. Schwarz has a passion for innovation, actively seeking opportunities to trial new technologies and push boundaries. During her tenure at Cenovus Energy, Ms. Schwarz led a multi-disciplinary team of engineers to commission and operate industry leading, large scale steam assisted gravity drainage facilities spanning cogeneration, steam generation, processing and water treatment. Bailey graduated with a Degree in Chemical Engineering from McGill University and recently passed her CFA Level I exam.
Chris is the Founder, CEO and Director of E3 Metals Corp, listed on the Venture Exchange (TSXV: ETMC). Chris is a serial innovator and entrepreneur, an aviator and founder of emerging ideas and technology. He is passionate about making impactful change and the electrical revolution. Chris has experience in capital raising, both privately and publicly, and has assisted in the founding of public junior mining companies and the sale and acquisition of mineral properties. At E3 Metals, Chris emphasizes risk management, developing and managing an exceptional technical team and well-strategized project generation, with a clear focus on developing and capturing value for shareholders. Chris has successfully led E3 Metals from a private company with a great idea to a public company with a global scale lithium resource and proprietary lithium extraction technology.
Candice is the Director for Regulatory Affairs & External Relations at Enhance Energy, a privately-owned Alberta-based energy development company reducing carbon emissions through CCS and CCUS. She has 15 years of experience in technology development and innovation in energy systems.
Candice is passionate about energy technologies, environmental performance and impact in communities. She holds a B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering and a M.Sc. in Chemical Engineering. She is registered as a Professional Engineer with APEGA and is a Fellow with the Energy Futures Lab. She has been recognized as a leading female innovator as part of the Alberta Chapter of SHEInnovates and as an energy industry influencer in the Young Women in Energy 2020 awards.
She is a recognized thought leader in her community, volunteering with the Women in Leadership Calgary Chapter, Cybermentor, the Alberta Clean Technology Industry Alliance (ACTia), the Edmonton Ski Club, and the Technical Committee for the Global Energy Show. She developed and co-hosts a podcast, For the Sake of Argument, exploring skills to help navigate critical conversations. Her family feels at home in Edmonton and Calgary and spends as much of their free time as possible exploring mountains by foot, by ski or by snowboard.
As Vice President of Investments at Evok Innovations, Robert oversees deal flow and assists in portfolio company engagement and integration with Evok’s funding partners. Robert is active on the boards of the following Evok portfolio companies: ARIX Technologies, Rotoliptic Technologies Inc., Osperity Inc., SensorUp, and Expeto Wireless. Prior to Evok, Robert was a Director of a Greenwich, CT, based family office and venture capital firm. There he led deal origination, asset management, and was the principal liaison between the firm and its portfolio companies. Included in his responsibilities was managing a 200-acre industrial complex and Class I rail terminal in central New York, specializing in material handling and storage for the oil & gas sector.
In 2011, Robert relocated in Seoul, Korea, where he worked as a Project Leader within Samsung Group’s internal strategy division, with a speciality in renewable and conventional energy.
Robert earned a Masters of Business Administration and Masters of Environmental Management from Duke University in Durham, NC, as well as a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Pennsylvania, in Philadelphia, PA.
Cal is an innovator with a passion for seeking different ways of addressing challenging opportunities with a keen interest in sustaining and diversifying Alberta’s natural resource economy; he is trained as an accountant and understands and appreciates the importance of strong financial management and controls.
As an innovator and risk-taker, which is understandably an oxymoron for an accountant, Cal began his current career seeking solutions for some of the challenges and opportunities in the oilsands and spent the last ten years focused on the impact that viscosity has on Alberta’s heavy oil.
Cal has started several start-up businesses, most recently a company supplying industrial degreasers and coatings to oilsand companies leading to this exciting new business opportunity to move crude oil as a semi-solid.
Aaron has worked in technical roles in oil and gas with Talisman and Repsol, working in London working for a mezzanine debt fund which funded renewable energy projects in Africa, and investment banking. He currently works in management consulting with Criterium Group across the energy landscape including renewables, oil and gas, petrochemicals, mining and clean tech. Aaron is the Co-Founder and Executive Director of ENERGYminute, a digital media organization focused on energy, technology and the environment.
